CLERA GUIDE

Can I sell a property that needs work?

Yes. A property does not have to be renovated before it can be sold. The decision is whether the likely extra sale price is worth the time, cost and disruption of doing the work.

Three useful starting points

  1. Get a realistic view of condition and the work buyers are likely to price in.
  2. Avoid spending on improvements that do not suit your timescale or buyer type.
  3. Consider buyers and routes that are comfortable taking on a project.

The short answer

Some sellers benefit from light preparation and open-market marketing; others prefer to sell as it stands. The sensible choice depends on your funds, appetite for works and required timing.
